The Birds.

A murmuration of impossible beauty, and the earth that keeps us watching.

Silhouette of a bird taking flight from a telegraph pole criss-crossed with wires against a pale sky.
A single bird, the edge of a murmuration.

Thousands probably More They painted the skies Every black dot a world out of reach Such a belly laugh of calligraphy This god of the dusk I caught a dragon's grin in the drift Then again it changed. The clouds turned to their dance lilac, lavender, pink, gold We wanted to rise to them But this earth pressed us down So we bent in submission Like the lowest of branches And stared with cranked necks Quiet tears, mouths open We wanted to prey to them But this earth pushed us down They danced for the sake of it As loose as the tightest, a natural madness Unrolling a phantom Haunting our humanity with such unrealistic vision Such unobtainable harmony A jeer A glistening tooth of gold cutting a smile And we just stared with the wet of a new borns tears And knew it was impossible So punished by the worlds we make So haunted by the screens we feed on And here in heaven On earth Although we knew this happens every day We knew our time had come to leave
